Default Engine compartment clean up

That AC evaporator/heater box is still bugging me. i can't come up with a way to make it look good without taking it out and apart. I may eb able to wipe it some with lacquer thinner, but not sure if that will do anything.

The first two pics are when i got the car, the second two pieces are recent.

Where is that green AC wire supposed to run? It look stupid on top of the compressor, but i don't want to burn it on an exh manifold.

Doug

Turned out very nice. Much more work involved than many may think. Great job!

Ha, if you lived where I live your pretty engine bay would be beyond filthy within one week. But I do have to say "darned nice work" because your engine and surroundings look fabulous.

Hi AZ,
Very nice looking compartment.
I understand the work that goes into having things look like that.
After getting the fiberglass box as clean as possible wiping it with a cloth with lacquer thinner on it does give it a nice appearance.
Regards,
Alan

I am slowly doing my 72' little by little......it is great because the car is unmolested and no repairs.....makes for a nice detail.
Around the A/C heat box remove what you can and use an enamel reducer instead of lacquer thinner......not nearly as strong....less chance of a bad surface finish.
I went over after with a terry towel (one "wet" one dry) with some "Shock" brand cleaner and it looks great.....
I am going to tackle the wiper area soon......
You are doing a great job......

the extra green ac plug would go to a idle solenoid on transmission, ce be used to bump up the idle when compressor is engaged,

will have plug even if car never came with the solenoid. Installed on eon mine and it helped stabilize idle when running ac.

AZDoug - nice work! How much of your improvement is from just cleaning existing equipment vs buying new parts? Did you take all of the parts off and clean them, or clean them in place?

I just found this thread again,

New valve covers, new air cleaner lid, new master cylinder (correct style vs the FLAPS one that came with the car), new rubber grommets/gaskets and actuator bellows, new wiper door actuator, everything else was just removed, and painted or powder coated, or other refinish.

Radiator was removed to fix leak and repainted, all shroud stuff was just cleaned up with thinner, pulleys, fan, air cleaner box, and power coated.

Engine parst removed cleaned and painted.
