I bet he's never had a diff that was popping and acting funny or a new one where you wanted to do some slow easy turning to make sure it's working OK.....
If you feel its necessary to do figure eights after changing your rear end lube go for it. Or to avoid looking like a total fool you could try making a left turn then a right turn in town so you wouldn't draw attention to yourself....................

speaking of looking like a total fool, do you have dual alternators on your Corvette?

Like driving a classic Corvette doesn't already 'draw attention to yourself'. Seriously.
For what it's worth...I purchased my 79 back in May. It sat for 4 years before I registered it and started driving it. There was a NASTY metallic scrubbing/binding/clunking coming from somewhere in the axle area. I read about the posi clutches sticking and posi additive here on this site (Posi Additive is something I never even heard of) BTW, I did the figure 8 thing a bunch of times with no luck
So I took the car to a local place and had the differential fluid changed and asked the guy to add posi additive. I had my doubts that this process would cure whatever the hell was going on back there as it sounded HORRIBLE. I left the place (with my doubts) and never heard the noise again!!!!
So this said, yeah, your differential gears and clutches can be "soaked" and "wet" and still be hung up.
Interesting thread. My 73 sat for more years then I car to admit. Did a TON of work on her. Drove it home---rear end noise. Tomorrow I should finally have time to suction out the new 80-90 fluid, and will replace it with GM fluid and two 4oz bottles of additive. Will do the 8's and REALLY hope the noise goes away!
I really appreciate the fellow 3rd gen Corvette guys here. The knowledge has helped me on my 73 project so much! Recently was FINALLY able to drive my 73, and was hearing a bad noise from the rear. Everything back there is new or rebuilt. Except the differential. Suctioned out the fresh 80-90 lube, with a turkey baster, and tubing, took a while, but worked fine. Drove circles in the caul-de-sacs in my neighborhood. My neighbors just thought it was cool to see a classic Vette. Very encouraged to report the noise seems to be gone! Could I possibly get a break? The resto-mod continues!
