I just got my 69 back from some work on it and once again I have looked at and tried to insert the aftermarket tray in. This tray is only 5 inches deep, I believe the original was 6 1/4 deep. Not a chance!
The seat belt assembly as I mentioned before is mounted on the side of the wheel well, not the top. It will not swivel or move at all. I took a picture on my I phone, but I don't know how to upload it. This is a March car, vin 17700.
what are you asking about the tray, if the replacement is not as deep as the original why wouldn't it fit?
is this a convertible or coupe? Is the shoulder belt the factory belt or aftermarket?
On my 69, built November 69, owned since February 73, the door hits the reel. You have to tilt the storage tray foward and almost force it down into the opening. The reproductions may also have to be trimmed.
The shoulder belt assemblies are mounted on the inside of the wheel wells. Not a chance in Hell of getting in even the aftermarket tray which is only 5 inches deep! Jeepers, the factory one is 6 1/4 inches deep! What the Hell were they thinking?? The compartment door opens up about 3/4's of the way. The seat belts are labeled "7F69".
This is a completely original car, only 20k miles and I have spoken to the original owner several times. If these assemblies were just placed farther BACK, that would give me room to open the compartment door fully and drop in the tray. All I can think of is the reason I do not have the original fiber tray is someone needed to get to the jack and had to destroy it to get it out. The original owner could not remember.
What did Dave McLellen say about the 84 Corvette? Finally "Fit follows function"!! When engineering and styling worked together at last
