Default Need help on seat selection

My 79 is going to be in my shop all winter for a complete resto/paint. My back can no longer tolerate the design of the 79 seats on long trips. I need to find a more typical straight back seat. I realize some fab work will probably be needed to fit the new seats.

Can anyone suggest the best c3/c4 candidate to replace the lousy design 79 seats.

Thanks

I have not done it but I see a lot of people replacing their seats with Fiero seats.

C5 seats have been done. I remember seeing some posts on the forum about it. And saw a '76 for sale locally a year or so ago that had it done with 2 tone beige leather.

I am planning on doing it for my back, too! I found a good deal on a used pair with all the motors, and lumbar bag and everything works. Got new foam, new wire meshes, and very nice perforated leather covers with c3 flags embroidered on head rest.

Just have to put it all together, figure out a way to power and mount them. Already got the pinout diagram from the c5 forum.

Also, have a custom set of retractable aircraft style 5- point shoulder harnesses to go with them.

My seats are in pretty nice condition, so this project has been on the back burner for a year. Too many irons in the fire right now.

Actually, this was the topic of one of my very first posts! But do a search, you will find some good stuff. Thats how I came up with my plan. Good luck. You can probably do better than I, spent about $1000 already and everything for them is upstairs in a spare bedroom waiting for me --- still!

If you get used seats, you will find almost universally, the drivers' seats need a lot of refurbishment and the passenger seats generally look great!!

Do a search on this forum for mustang seats. A member did his with a set of 2005 (I think) 'stang seats and they were almost a bolt in, minor fab if any and they looked really good.

While you are doing it for your back it is the perfect time to add heated seats. Simple to install with the seat out and you can get a set of heaters on eBay for less than one or two chiropractor bills.

I did the fiero swap in mine. Decent seats certainly look more comfortable than stock. I had to skip the adjusters for clearance, with the rails my eye were too level with the top windshield frame. No matter I got long legs, the seat needs to be as far back as it goes anyway.
As to the 05 mustang seat, I got a set from a junkyard real cheap and swapped into my 01 mustang dd. They are my favorite bucket seats Ive ever sat in. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

So is the 05 Mustang seat close to a direct Swap?
