C5 brake booster in C3
69427 notes replacing the C3 booster with the C4 booster to shed four pounds in the thread below:

Another option would be to replace the master with an aluminum one of the same design. I did this in my car and shed some weight but didn't require any mods at all.

Quite a while back I kicked around putting a C5 booster in my car (purely for weight reduction), but after obtaining one I weighed it and the difference IIRC was in the range of four to six ounces. It wasn't worth the time and aggravation to install it at the time. I then looked at C4 boosters, and all of them are about half the weight of C3 and C5 boosters, although the '84 booster was the only one that would package well due to the diameter being similar to a C3 booster.
If you do install a C5 booster, post some pictures of your progress. IIRC, the only major differences in the C5 booster is the length and termination of the pedal rod, and also the shape/depth of the m/c pushrod which may require the use of a C5 m/c (I was already using a C5 m/c, so that wasn't an issue).
Good luck in whatever direction you decide to go.
If you are replacing it why not go with hydroboost power brake system. You would get much better performance and it is a smaller install with no booster drum. Can get a whole system made to install in that car with no fit problems.
