First time post. Thanks for helping in advance. I got in the 76 this morning after a nice drive yesterday just to find that it is permanently in reverse. I put the shifter in neutral, released the clutch, and I moved backward. Put it into first then the car began to stall out. I guess forward and reverse don't work at the same time. Anyway, I cannot get the shifter back over to reverse either. I am stuck in and out of reverse at the same time. Any help would be appreciated.

The same thing happened to my 75. I got some advice from either this forum or a C3 FB page to help me out. I can not remember the details, but I know I put the shifter in neutral and then went under the car and move the shifter linkage manually until it was in neutral and then everything worked. I know someone will supply more detail, but I know it was not hard to fix, just a little nerve racking when it happen.
Your solution kind of worked. Come to find out my trans would not shift out of reverse at all. So, I disconnected the rod from the lever, put the shifter in the proper, reverse, position, then tried to shift again. No good. I walked away for an appointment then it worked. Go figure? I ordered, as per forum suggestions, a shift rebuild kit. I also adjusted the clutch linkage as per forum suggestions. Seems to be good so far. Thanks for everything.
