I have 76 corvette. I have to manually raise the headlights. Now my right headlight wont go back down. How can u manually lower the lights?
Reach up from under the headlight bucket and locate the center pivot point or "knee" of the headlight mechanism (1st time it helps to look under there with a flash light to find it - once you see it you'll have no problem doing it without looking) and simply pull downward on the center pivot. You don't need to pull much, once you pull it just a bit you'll feel it fall out of the locked position and it should fall the rest of the way closed at a fairly slow rate.
If you're having to manually raise/lower your lights you are likely suffering from vacuum leak issues as well.
Most likely culprit to check first is the "witches hat" seal in one or both of the headlight vacuum cans.
Easy to check, Fairly easy to replace, very low cost item. You can search the forum for detailed info on this repair.

Hi JM1,
Fred's right on with his info.
I'll mention though that you need to keep your hand away from the headlight warning switch which is right where you want to grab.
It's made of plastic, is very fragile, and thus easy to break off.

Alan
