This is a common misconception. The 10W or 5W or 0W indicate the cold flow properties at a minimum temperature tested (the lower the number the lower the temperature tested). The oil is always a 30 weight oil, but does not thicken up as much in below freezing temps. If you are in a warmer climate and will not be running the car in under 40° temps, then straight 30 weight is perfectly fine.
I got screwed up on this a long time a go when I was told incorrect information. And believing it so long...it was hard for me to correct my thoughts on this... And when I contacted Amsoil...they got me straight...so I do know that this is correct.
And for an oil filter ...if you have a new engine with a lot money invested in it...there is one out there that never needs to be replaced and you can take it apart and clean and inspect it ...and YES...it has magnets in it along with using stainless steel mesh that is a much higher quality method of consistent filtration...and YES it also has a by-pass. As I was told...the stainless steel mesh is like what is used to filter blood.
