I finally have cold air blowing through the vents. I converted to 134a using a POA replacement unit from Old Air Products that basically converts to an orifice tube type system. I trouble shot all the systems (freon, electrical, and vacuum). All these sysems appear to be working properly now.
What's happening now is...
When I'm running down the road the system makes a 'puff' sound every 30 seconds or so. Along with the puff is a drag on the motor. I believe that either the compressor is kicking on and off or the pressure relief valve is releasing. I can't seem to make it happen when I'm stopped.
Any idea what's happening here?
Thanks!
I'm not an airconditioning guy either but it sounds like that's what's happening. I was going to suggest you leave a question over at aircondition.com, but I see you already have. :D
One of those guys will probably clue you in quickly, but if not have you tried calling the guys you bought the conversion kit from?
With the orifice system the compressor is suppose to cycle. You can tell on mine when it quicks in, with a pretty much stock L-48 engine the A/C compressor really takes a bite out of the HP and you can feel it. The older POA system the compressor ran constantly and the POA valve regulated the pressure to keep from freezing up, if my memory serves me right. Does this sound like what your experiencing? Mine also does less cycling at idle because of the lower compressor speed.
