Default Pcv oil baffle

Stock '75, base 350. I have a set of cast aluminum chromed valve covers that I want to install. The stock valve cover has a rectangular oil baffle for the pcv valve. Is the baffle removable? The cast covers have what looks like locating tabs for the baffle.

Stock baffle is spot welded in. Might destroy them trying to remove them.

Search this forum for info, this has been discussed before

You should be able to buy a baffle to go in your new aluminum cover. I bought new covers and the baffles were included. There was a boss inside the cover that was tapped for the screw that holds the baffle in place. Take a look inside your cover and see if there's a boss with a hole for just that purpose.
Good luck.

Yes u need a baffle to keep oil off that PCV. U may have to return those vlv covers and shop for others that do. Maybe need to contact vendor and/or mfr.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.

I have done some searching, but not finding exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't sure how the baffle was attached to the stock cover, so thanks Mike for the info regarding the spot welding.

These covers were given to me by my brother-in-law, so no money out of pocket, other than for a new gasket set. I found a set of baffles on ebay similar to the stock ones. They have holes for screws, but I don't think the valve cover is thick enough for me to drill and tap holes (see pic below).

Would there be any problem with using JB Weld to secure them in place? I definitely don't want them coming loose.

If they are stamped steel covers, your BEST choice (IMO) would be to find a welding shop or sheet metal shop [that also does welding] to have those baffles tack-welded to the covers. I LOVE JBWeld epoxies...but I think that environment is a bit risky for epoxy to hold indefinitiely.

A quick tack weld of those baffles shouldn't cost over $20, if the shop takes 'walk-ins'.

P.S. If you can find a buddy with a cheap electric welder, you can DIY it for nothing....well, maybe a beer.

Nope, they're cast aluminum.

Like the Church-Lady used to say on Saturday Night Live...

Nevermind!

Actually, with those holes in the baffles, a welder might be able to Heli-arc some 'rivet' heads from the alum surface showing under those holes.

I ended up using a Moroso baffled grommet for the PCV (#68773). Just had to enlarge the hole in the valve cover by about 0.2".

We'll see how it performs. Nice, simple solution and I don't have to worry about epoxy failing and letting a metal baffle bounce around between my rockers.
