I live next to a field and there is an endless supply of mice even with cats(stupid cats spray your alum wheels and it stains!).
This is what I do for my cars. I buy peppermint oil, it's suppose to ward off rodents. You can get a larger size on ebay than those little crappy bottles in stores(last a few years for 3 cars and save $). Then put 3-4 cotton ***** in a cheap flap style sandwich bag and pour in some p-oil to wet the *****, set a few bags in diff locations in the cars and even if mice get in I can't smell them. I've done it w/o the bags and sometimes you gotta clean off the cotton ball where it touched. Had a huge nest with dead mice in my c3 heater core area that I didn't smell(was stored for ten years with no preventative measures before I got it). I hate moth ***** and only use them under the car out in my polebarn.
well I buy three bars of irish spring soap ,cut the soap in pieces ,and spread the pieces around the tires ,mice hate the smell ,been doing it for about ten years now ,works good!!!

HAHAHA- I had mice in my house- found out when my son told me something had been chewing on his soap- Irish Spring Soap!!! No- REALLY!!!
The little bastards has eaten through my NEW plastic crawlspace vents. I ended up replacing them w/ metal ones that didn't look as nice -modified them w/ gutter guard material versus the cheap screen stuff they came with..
A snap trap is the best way...Put it out -not set for a week - along the walls. Next week put some peanut butter on them- and but don't set them. Third week- peanut butter and set them- a couple days later hopefully their little necks will be snapped!!!

A trick with the snap traps is to put a bit of peanut butter on a 1" square of paper towel. Use pliers to bend down the "U" slot on the trigger device. Mouse tugs at paper, dead mouse.
About two weeks ago I had a 3/4 full can of cashews (with it's plastic lid on it) sitting on my front seat and the next morning I found a mouse had gotten into my '71 and chewed a quarter-sized hole thru the lid. Damn! I set a trap and nailed him the next morning. This morning I found a pack of my cigarettes had been chewed up so another mouse is getting in even though I keep my windows up at all times. I think they're getting in thru the right kick panel vent. So I'll set another trap tonight.
Mice have eaten two sets of Belden spark plug wires in my '73 Chevy pickup and one day I found a mouse nest with 9 live babies in it in my '82's air cleaner. I have "pack rats" where I live and the little suckers will haul stuff away. One day about 200 yards up the hill from my house I found a brass toilet valve, a brass faucet, a 1950's empty can of chain saw oil, a rusty 1/2" end wrench, and a shower curtain ring under a bush.
