Well i am a newbie on this, but what else could it be?
Engine is built with all new parts inside and heads have new valves, guides fixed for higher lift, springs and so on by an old gearhead.
All parts from Chris.
Talked to an experienced enginebuilder and he said that bad lifters are very common.
Dont know were else to look if its not a lifter.
Sound is like a valve having to large gap between rocker and valve stem. Will try to get a video of it later.
Could be many things , and lifters being bad are not common. ( IMOP)
But my concern is your getting noisy as it warms up and that says clearance issue on something .
So if you can record the ticking or noise it would be a big help
That sure sounds like the valve train. And its loud as hell.
That is a hydraulic roller ?
How are you finding zero lash before you adjust the rockers ?
I would personally pull the easiest valve cover
I would start the motor and with it running adjust one set of noisy lifters.
Many will complain at this suggestion or say dont do it.. BUT I recommend it because your new to this and it will be a way to know easily and quickly if your adjustments are wrong.
So :
Pull valve cover start motor and go to loudest set of valves. Use aluminum foil or a rag to stop oil from spitting everywhere.
Slowly back off the adjustment nut until you here it clicking loudly. IT will take very little backing off to get a clicking noise.
Now slowly tighten until that clicking goes away STOP your at zero lash.. Now 1/4 turn at a time set the lash based on Straubs suggestion 1 or 1.5 turns .. DO THIS SLOWLY because the motor may want to stall as it recovers from each 1/4 turn.
Do this to the other valve in that cylinder and move down the head adjusting all 8 that way. If it eliminates the clicking do the other side of the motor .
Yes, its a hydraulic roller, straub cam.
I have set it to one full turn according to Chris recommendation.
Zero lash with warm Engine, backed of untill i could move pushrod freely and then tighten according to recommendation.
Have reset it twice, without luck....i am going to replace lifter 1 and 8.
Allready changed out 4 and 6.
Knocking is on passenger side.
If it does not go away, i dont know what to do next......
Well...adjust lifters with engine running is not gonna solve this....
Done adjusting, all lifters are fine, exept maybe one...
Talked to Chris and he thinks its something else...makes me worried.
He shall get a second opinion from someone else, lets see what that brings....
SOmetimes a fuel pump going back can haunt you.
Wish you were a neighor Id have it figured out in 10 min
Well, so do i!
Im in Sweden and you are in California, wich is by the way my favourite destination to vacate, done it several times.
Story continues, will keep you posted.

Let straub fix it then. At this point it can tick and clank all day every day I sure wont offer any advice .
The source of my engine knock is found.
Its the piston domes that have very slightly hit the head, nothing is broken.
Some light machining to the heads will fix it.
Cause for this is that i have shaved heads and decked engineblock.
I have Mahle forged pistons with 28cc dome.
So all you guys out there building your own engine, have this in mind so it wont happen to you!

Claes,
Kudo's to you sir for staying the course and getting this figured out. Once your fixed you can enjoy the car sir. Thank you for posting this. It will be good for others that are building BBC to learn from.
