Will do, everything is going to be checked before assembly!
This engine will be one of a kind, so much more fun than a crate!
Big thanks to Chris who has supported me in my build and chipped in!!
This support is hard to find theese Days!!
When I build an engine I like to clay the pistons, then problems like that are found early. I am building a 468 now w domes, big valves and a roller cam, the short block is together so that is my next step. Lessons learned the hard way ! Good luck and hope it all works out.
Final report on my build.
New bearings since i had got the wrong ones from my shop...P bearings insted of H...wich is what i will install now.
Jonas made some measuring of pushrods and i will swap from 7,8 to 7,4" on intake and 8,65 to 8,4" on exhaust... he was not satisfied with rockerwheel print on valvestem.
Build an engine as a newbie is not cheap if you dont know how...but i have learnd everything about my engine and Bigblocks in general...so share and be happy!

Its the piston domes that have very slightly hit the head, nothing is broken.
Some light machining to the heads will fix it.
Cause for this is that i have shaved heads and decked engineblock.
I have Mahle forged pistons with 28cc dome.
So all you guys out there building your own engine, have this in mind so it wont happen to you!

Had some issues with pinging, reset timing to 14 initial and 18 max mech at 3000rpm, that did the trick.

Dont ask me why and how, i am a newbee on this.
Crank, cam and camgear in place, next pistons and rod install.
This is my first enginebuild and doing it myself, with a little assist from my mechanic, great fun!!

I have to say you owe ciwi the owner an apologize for saying that rather than install a brand new 502. My sympathies to ciwi and I believe you are now a BB expert and can really help others on this forum with your new experience.

Your welcome sir. Glad you found the source of the noise and it wasnt' valve train.
Car is up and running!
I had to back of inital ignition to 12 to stop the pinging, running 18 mech and intake vac to distributor. CR is 10,5:1 and static compression 196 psi.
I get 14 mpg at 65 mph, that is very nice with a TH400 and a Straub cam. Happy days!

Claes,
Glad you got her on the road before winter hit sir. Figuring out it was the piston hitting the head and not a valvetrain issue took some time but its all worth it in the end. That fuel mileage would not come with a 502!!! Congrats man!!!

Glad you got it all sorted out. Make sure you post a video, preferably with smoke coming from your tires!
I think you were wise yo choose forged pistons. Hypereutectic are strong and much cheaper but are also very brittle. They probably would have shattered with the contact that you had.

Thanks Chris!
What i love is the bottom end torque and how she idles, a bit rough but what a lovely exhaust sound with longtubes and custom built stainless exhaust, puts a smile on my face everytime i start it!
I could have dynoed it, but it was to expensive...800$...
Jonas calculated TQ to 510 ft/lbs at 3500rpm
With this cam, fuelmilage is a suprice and a big bonus.
I am so happy with my engine, it feels soo strong and runs great.
I do have to use 95oct because high compression, 7,7 dynamic and 195 psi static and 10,5 CR, a bit high for my 049 iron heads but it works so far..
I am in the break in period now, done 500 miles so far and all smiles.

Claes,

Thx for sharing.
I don't think Jebby owes any apology....Claes is very happy with the build. I think you owe Jebby an apology.
