Tachometer
Went for a drive this morning, and saw my tach pegged all the way over and would not correct itself, what would cause that?

You can stop that by taking your foot off the gas pedal.

Hi q,
No information in your post or in your profile about what YEAR you're car is.
Knowing that would be help and a start since we'd then at least know if it's a mechanical or electronic tachometer.
Regards,
Alan

Hi q,
Sorry, I can really only help with earlier mechanical tachometers…. and even then just a little bit.
Someone else will be along.
Regards,
Alan

Not sure what would cause it, but Willcox has been very helpful here with the electronic tachs. I'd email them and see if they could offer any advice.

In most cases the issue you describe tends to be a failure in the tach board. Removal on your car is easy and testing is even easier.
The info below will walk you through how to test and remove the tach from your car.

If you do need a new tach board, we have plenty of them.

Very easy to replace the board.
Same thing happened to my wife's 79 few yrs ago. Used Wilcox's trouble shooting guide and bought a new board from Wilcox. Came in a few days and I had it fixed in about 25mins.

You 78-82 guys have it made, the 75-77 tach is a beast to remove.
