Default Cruise Control Issue

I have a 1977 L48 automatic with a cruise control issue.
i can set the cruise and it and it engages fine. The only way it will disengage is to turn the ignition key off. I checked the brake light switch and it appears to be working correctly by interrupting the circuit. Anyone have any thoughts on what to check next? Thanks

Sounds like a bad "hold" solenoid/relay in the transducer head.To my knowledge, the only components to that system are the transducer head, the throttle actuating servo, the switch control unit, and the switch on the brake pedal.

If you haven't checked JUST that portion of that brake switch (used for the cruise control) with a multi-meter, you should do that first. This is the most likely component to be defective, with the symptoms you described. If that switch is O.K. and is adjusted properly, then the transducer head MUST be defective.

P.S. If the transducer is defective, but can be repaired for not much money, keep the original unit. But, if the transducer is 'toast', you might be better off replacing that system with a modern electronic cruise unit. The costs would be about the same, but the newer cruise unit would be more reliable. Just passing on that thought. Your existing control switch can be used to hook up to the newer cruise unit.
