68 435 here with tach drive HEI and no clearance problems. A bit tighter fit than an original distributor but definitely workable.

I know you can't see it with the hood closed but the clear cap has never caught on for me.

I already ran that configuration with no problems. I'm looking to "clean up" the engine bay by removing the coil & bracket & center wire.

Not concerned about cap color.... just fitment.

The 70 has a 5 port washer pump... and a pretty big pump cover. Can you please post a pic of the washer pump and HEI relationship ?

I have the big cap HEI in my 72 and it clears everything on the firewall fine (wiper motor/washer pump).
You can just see everything in the engine bay pretty good at the beginning of my video.
Obviously, I don't have the 3X2 intake, so I don't know about the rear carb that would be in front of it... but 1Fordman says in post 4 that it worked on his....

It clears the rear TriPower carb by a hair. I have a 87 Vette HEI distributor I'm detailing right now and I have the Tripower on the bench. It's the five port washer pump cover that's the question. I guess I'll just pull the distributor out of the 454 and drop in the 87 distributor to see. Thanks for all the replies. I'll be back shortly.
...It fits.

If you're trying to not have a coil and coil wire, why not a Vertex magneto?

Price and ease of access to replacement parts is a factor... but especially price. Those magneto's are too pricey for this project.
