Thinking about ordering a set of headers. In advance, is it necessary to remove stock starter for installation? Seem's like I saw this previously. My air conditioning and brackets have been removed permantly.
I didn't have to. Just make sure that you install them from underneath the car. I also found the hex bolts much easier to work with than the ones that came with my Hedmans.
with my ancient hooker headers. the right one drops right out. i have to remove the clutch are to remove the left one. actually, you might need to loosen up the header to drop the starter.
Passenger side Dynomax will go in or come out the top with the starter installed. The driver's side has to be installed/removed from below with the clutch linkage removed.
The starter can be installed/removed with the headers attached (been there, done that, just a little more :smash: )
Here's a word of advice for you: Do not use a stock-type starter if installing headers. Eventually (more sooner than later), you'll have a bad case of heat soak/no-start. The stock-size starter solenoid ends up being extremely close to the headers, which get very hot. After I installed a McCleod high-torque mini starter, I never had another no-start problem related to heat soak. The mini starter is much easier to install and handle, due to its small size and weight.
