71 LS5 cam question

does anyone know if a stock LS 5 can handle a cam with a 652/654 lift?
I have a new cam and lifters and want to see if I can use them ?

Assume you are asking about piston to valve clearance with a hi lift cam? The usual way is to check with modeling clay on the piston dome, rotate engine couple times and measure the clearance. Lots of variables, including the rate of valve movement (lobe config). Contact the cam mfg, after getting your LS5 engine/cam specs.

At the least, use long slot or roller rockers.

A cam with that kind of lift will be quite long duration. The engine will run awful as the cam won't match the intake & heads.

You will need new springs.

Also agree a cam that wont work well with factory compression of 9/1

Also retainer to valve guide clearance along with coil bind will be issues with that much lift. There will be some machining involved to make it all work.
