My '82 fuse panel has a wire plugged in at a location labeled ACC in the shop manual. The plug overhangs a 20A fuse that I want to remove temporarily. Does anyone know how to get this gray plug out? I pulled as hard as I thought was reasonable without breaking it.
I take that back, i do have that clip and it looks like it surrounds the 20 amp fuse. So I would give it a wiggle and pinch it or try grabbing just the fuse to see if that wiggles. I never noticed that before and it does stick out like a sore thumb.
GM got crazy with adapters and squeezing in condensers where they barely fit. That clip looks like another corvette and maybe Cadillac only clip. I don't know where that brown wire goes but if I had to guess, I would say interior lights.

The fuse can't be removed until that plug is out. I can pull the fuse out about 1/16" with needle-nose pliers, but then it hits the plug. I'm surprised no one here has run into this. I don't know if there's a trick to removing the plug, or if I'm just being too careful. I yanked on it pretty hard though...
diagram shows only to brown /white wires from fuse box, one was to wipers and the other was piggy backed off the radio fuse, to electric mirrors. maybe pull on the fuse and gray connector at the same time. they may come out together. good luck... attached 82 wiring schematic....fuse box 2nd page https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...TEwMTE5YTk0MWU

I replaced all my fuses a few months ago, I think you have to squeeze one of the sides, I had to replace my turn signal switch so I figured I would change my fuses while I was under there... I took a mirror and a flash light and looked at it at different angles... I used a lawn chair to get more comfortable... Good luck....
When I bought new fuses, I bought the ones that have led lights in them, they are suppose to light up if they are blown... More expensive but I thought it would be easier to find when they blow... These cars were made for 5 year olds, you have to have very small hands to work on... LOL
The gray plug is a single blade plug in for the ACC. In your picture, the brown/white wire is going into the spot where the plug connects to the fuse-block. If you look down at the blue plug connecting to the DEF with the large gauge orange wire, you can see how your gray plug is connected. The reason it looks different is that your gray plug has a convenient additional take-off for an additional accessory you might want to add.
Practice on the blue plug first, then go for it the same way with the gray plug.
I tried that when I was working on it a couple days ago, but maybe I didn't do it right. I'll try my right-angle long nose pliers when I get home today.

Great idea! I might have to do the same thing soon. These cars have shrunk a lot in the last 40 years.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
I appreciate everyone's advice with this. It's a big help just to know the darn thing isn't screwed to the panel from the back or something goofy like that.
AS you might find or notice...there is a catch tang that you must compress to get this gray plug out.....IF my memory serves me correctly. On the top...kinda fun to press down.

Thanks, I was thinking it probably had a release of some sort. Couldn't find one by reaching up there and feeling around the plug, but I'll try again tomorrow.

OK, I Pulled the plug and removed the fuse. Here's a pic of the plug (it installs with the tang facing up). Below it is the 35-year-old homemade tool I used to remove it. The tool also works great on big speaker grilles.
