I have the rear spring out of my 77 for a gear swap, so I figured I'd clean it up while it's out. I've got the leaves separated and cleaned up, and the new leaf spacers/liners ready to go in. Just a couple of questions first...do I leave the leafs bare metal or paint them? And do I put the liners in bare, or do I grease them to allow the springs leaves to slide easily?
Hi ted,
The spring leaves were original finished with a zinc rich coating called Ionaklad.
The various rear spring gray paints available today are sufficient for most folks.
Most folks assemble the springs with no sort of lubricant on the liners.
Regards,
Alan
