So Ive been in the process of fixing the striped teeth on my drivers side window regulator gear. I bought a repair kit and i have it all nice and mounted on there. Now my trouble is putting the whole thing back together.
The spring was already off when i got to work on it so i mounted the spring back in and then put a bolt in where the two holes line in to hold the pressure. I put the whole regulator assembly back in the door like this and now i can't seem to get the bolts on the window glass to align with the regulator arm holes. At the front and the back.
Should i not have the spring on in this stage?
I can't find anything specific enough to help me with this online. Any experienced members have a guide?
Did you try it at different heights? I think I inserts my window bolts with the regulator in the half way down position. Sometimes keeping everything loose until it's all lined up helps. Use the marks left on the door metal to get a good idea where the bolts should be tightened down. Also if you can look inside your passenger door to make sure nothing is in backwards or mixed up.
ill try disassembling the regulator from the gear and reattaching at the halfway mark. Do i put the spring on the assembly before i put it in the door? or after it's all mounted? Seems like i should put it on and lock it with a bolt before i put it in the door.
Recently had my regulator out to replace the spring and can tell you how I did it. I have read your post a few times and am trying to figure if you put the regulator back in with the bolt still thru it. My understanding was that the bolt/lock is for holding spring tension so you can remove the motor. if I understand it correctly the tension on the spring would need to be highest when it's in the lowered position as then it will assist the weight of the window go up as it unloads tension. Anyway then I remounted the regulator loosely then reinstalled the window and was able to move the regulator with the motor to move the arms to the proper position to remount the glass. Since you still have it apart you might want to check the lower bracket for cracks.

I agree. Install the motor and you can remove the bolt as the motor will keep the regulator from moving.
Use 12 volts on one terminal from the motor to collapse the regulator so it will fit back into the door.
You must ground the motor case don't put the ground on the second motor terminal as one terminal is for UP and the other for DOWN.
