Default tach cable angle

i'm getting ready to fire up the 71 this week if the weather holds up. was wondering if the angle on the tach cable was too much and would fail. had not hooked it up yet while i finished a bunch of projects. pulling the dist. back out is not a problem but if the angle is good i would like to let it alone. had read on the forum that if too much curve things would get ugly. thanks.

Hi cdw,
I think that actually looks good.
Here's a blurry pic of my 71…. you can see the gentle curve is similar to yours.
Regards,
Alan

Default Tachometer Cable Housing

It's normal for them to operate in a "S" shaped position and it doesn't hurt or wear them out any faster than running dead straight.

Hi cdw,
What gets people in trouble with the tach cable is the position of the 'advance can' on the other side of the distributor.
People want to clock it forward of the bracket that supports the distributor radio shield …. this location was typical on millions of sb engines for years… but it put the tach drive/cable at a serious angle when the support bracket was added.
Rotating the distributor until the 'can' is BEHIND the support bracket puts the tach drive in a good position for the cable connection.
Regards,
Alan
