I bought a edelbrock air gap for my 454 and now the hood won't close .I thought I read a article on here that it would ,,, I failed the class ,, the worst part is i bought it 3 years ago and i can't return it now ,, ebay here it comes or if anyone needs one let me know,,,my question is what performance manifold will fit under my big block hood!!!
thanks
Anything that will fit under the stock hood will have some performance limitations. Do you want to run a Qjet or a Holley carb? If Qjet, you may as well stay with the intake you have IMO.
Torker II single place intake (not the greatest since it's single plane) but for a Holley the 3963569 LS6 manifolds are available (and being repo'd) square port but will work on oval port heads in a pinch (use square port gaskets) some have even reshaped the ports to flow better (???)
If you want to go to a drop based air-cleaner and thinner element there are some options

i managed to get an air gap to fit on my BB 73...ive got measurements on the drop base and filter i used here somewhere, ill dig them up tomorrow. my plan is to go with an l88 hood someday. it fits now, but i know its very restrictive.

Before you abort, tell us what carb and aircleaner that you run.
heres a thread w pix of my air gap setup. same drop base, but had to switch to a 2" K&N filter and a vented lid. note the lid is VERY close to the top of the carb...i had to trim the vent tubes way down...
As you can see in this picture, I have the L88 hood. I have the shorter (length) version that allows wiper door to function. I have a RPM Air Gap on my big block topped with a Quick Fuel double pumper and a drop base air cleaner and 3" element.
At least this didn't happen. Years ago I was walking through one of the base shops where you could work on your cars. A fellow was changing his intake on his 74 from stock to a high rise edelbrock. I asked him if he had checked his hood clearance before doing it and he replied that "the guy at the parts store said it would fit". I said he might want to just set everything on the motor and check before he bolted it all down. He said there was no need to as the guy told him it would fit. I walked away hoping he would check it out but he didn't. Bolted everything down got it ready to go and to prove a point got me to watch him close his hood. Without the air cleaner on it and of course the stud sticking up out of the Q Jet he let the hood drop, more to the point, let it slam down and put a nice hole in it where the air cleaner hold down bolt was.

Whatever he lacked in the way of common sense was more than offset by his confidence.
Well I wanted to run a Holley 750 with ele choke ... I would have to cut the choke off it and mill the top of the air gap to get it on ... I have the resorces to do it but I ruin two new components to do it
