Windshield defroster help

Recently I noticed that my defroster only works occassionly, or I have to leave it on for a few minutes before it actually comes on. Anyone know what causes this? I need to add it to the "things to do this winter" list. Thanks in advance.

Is it the blower or the defroster ducts themselves. Does the blower work on vent, heat etc?

Yes, the blower works perfect on all the other settings, sometimes the defroster won't come on or it'll take a while before it does.

The 77-82 defrost actuator is a single mode actuator i.e. it is vacuum operated in one mode and spring operated in the opposite mode when there is no vacuum. It may be a mild vacuum leak, that requires extra time to energize the actuator controlling the defroster door.

I was thinking vaccum leak but wasn't sure I'll definately check it out this winter.
