Default Urgent help identifying head

Hello everyone, I come here seeking advice on a L88 head that is for sale in my area, and I need help verifying its authenticity. Background, my father owns a 1969 Corvette 427 and he found this L88 head for sale for 4500$ that he wishes to purchase.

The serial number on the part is #3946074 date August 1969. I do not know much about these cars but my father is elderly and does not use the internet, so forgive me if the wording is wrong. Any advice on how to verify this is much appreciated.

this is the sellers posting

Hi l,
The information I'm looking at indicates the 3946074 part is an aluminum, open chamber, head.
The change from closed chamber, (842), to open chamber, (074,) occurred sometime in March of 1969 for late L-88 cars.
Regards,
Alan

Sorry I had to edit this ad a few times I was confused, thanks for your patience. So from what I understand it is the correct design but it may or may not be from an L88? My father believes getting these heads will benefit his restoration project for when he is done with it.

Hi l,
There are people much more familiar with L-88, L89, LS6 parts than I.
I'd send a private message to member…. Rowdy Rat…. , he can likely give you some guidance.
Regards,
Alan

Does your father have an L-88? If not, using a pair of L-88 heads would be a rather expensive addition.

My father does not have an L88 engine, but he has a 1969 427 and wants these heads because they are l88 also 1969. Why do you say it would be expensive? Just based on the cost of the heads?

I would consult someone who knows how to value cars before dropping $4500 on heads. $4500 buys a lot of engine stuff.

If You look at e-bay or other sources You will find that the 074 Heads sell for much less than $4500. If your fathers car was not an L-88 or L-89 then I don't understand the point of using them. There is no for sure date when the factory switched to the 074 head but it was generally thought that they did after they came back from the mid year Strike that halted production. Although very few Corvettes rolled off the line with 074 Heads many many more were sold across the Parts counter. There was no limit. Since aftermarket heads really didn't get started till the 1980's these were the Heads to have leading up till there introduction. I have seen 074 Heads with 1968 Casting dates and at least as late as 1974.
