Default '69 engine model vs tach redline?

Found a 69 vert. It supposedly has a 427 4 speed. Tach shows yellow at 5000 and redline at 5300. Console indicates 400hp. Is this correct?

Base: 300hp = 5300rpm
L46: 350hp = 6000rpm
L36: 390hp = 5600rpm
L68: 400hp = 5600rpm
L71/89: 435hp = 6500rpm
L88: 430hp = 6500rpm

Either the engine and console tag have been changed (most likely) and/or the tach has been changed to one for a base SB.

But, does it really matter to you if you like the car and the price is right?

FWIW: console HP tags can be meaningless. Too easy to change. Order a reproduction L-88 tag and you'll have an "L-88" in the time it takes to swap tags.

A stock 427 will rev to 5800 without any problems.

Well, it's going to take a lot of work to get the car where I want it so would mean more and be easier not to loose interest if it were original. Also if not original it questions what else I will run in to. When I check the engine, if the numbers match what else can j check to see if its a real big block car?

Thanks!

If the numbers match, as the seller why someone went to all the trouble of installing a small block base engine tachometer. The second thing to check is whether the seller has any factory documentation for the car.
