Default Possible monoleaf problems

So I just picked up a 1977 Corvette and after years of sitting I am redoing the suspension. I started with the rear suspension and decided on a monoleaf set up. I watched all the videos I could find and it all looked fairly easy. Everything came apart really easy but I am seeing problems with assembly. All the videos I have watched show the bolt connection the leaf spring to the trailing arm seems to drop right in and line up with the hole in the leaf spring. The hole in my leaf spring seems to be about an inch behind where the bolt drops. I know it is probably something stupid I did and I need advice. The leaf spring is mounted on the differential and the center pin lined right up.
Thank You,
Gisli aka geeser65

Have you tried lifting the trailing arm? I had to lift the trailing arm to get the bolt to drop through the spring.

That is exactly what I did to try and get the bolt in. Just to get it close I had to practically raise the trailing arm all the way up and then the leaf spring is to far away.

You'll have to raise the end of the leaf spring also. Clamp a piece of wood to the spring and put the jack against the timber to avoid slipping, then raise the jack to lift the spring end. You should then be able to lift the trailing arm with your hand, and drop the bolt through (might take a little persuasion to get it through the spring). It's a bit fiddly, but shouldn't be too bad.
