Looking over the two seals for the Diff in my 80, the two designs are rather different. The old seal compared to either of the new seals is really different, I have to say there was a reason for it. Anyway, before I flip a coin for which seal to install, I thought I might see if anyone had a bad experience with either brand.
Just be sure to install it with the lip facing in. Then coat the threads with red LocTite and blast the nut with an impact wrench until the pinion turns with about 30-35 in/lbs worth of torque. And don't forget the necessary friction modifier.

I wasn't going to put the nut back on with the impact. I was going to use a 1/2" drive, the case is apart (on work bench)so I can hold the ring gear. I am also replacing the side yoke seals. Fluid came out of this rear almost as fast as it went in. Just to be sure about the seal lip, looking at the side view of the seals, I have outside of the seal on the top.
You need to get the proper pre-load back on the pinion bearing to have a successful seal swap.....be sure to read the Chassis Service Manual to get things right.

The position of the nut was marked and also measured. I have a shop manual but not a "chassis" manual. I believe Tracdogg did mention that with the 80, that's about all you can do is put it back to the original depth.
I saw your post on the old thread, but I don't know if he is a member anymore. Unfortunately, the old thread does not have the reference photos. Also the 80 doesn't have the crush washer setup. Before taking off the nut, the end play was approximately .013"
