Default Headlight Switch Replacement Question

75 Coupe

I want to replace my headlight switch and the replacement part number I'me given is AC Delco 19106995 D6252D, but it doesn't have the vacuum port for the pop up headlights attached to it. I asked them to double check the part numbers and they all state this is the correct part number.

Are members converting the vacuum attachment on the old switch to the new ones or are there other options? I would imagine there must be an electrical switch that opens/closes the metal port attached to the old switch?

1995166 Was the original part number 1968-1974
1995191 Was the switch number for 1975-1977 and replaced 1995166 for 1968-1974
1995215 Was the switch number for 1978-1982

All three switches should have a vacuum port and the generic delco replacement switch will not have it.

Here are the correct switches for your car.

Who gave you the part number? Google it SWITCH,HDLP(W/O CONCEALED HEADLIGHT)(02.895)(ACDelco #D6252D)(ALL MAKES). and it says without concealed headlights.

Thank you Wilcox and Easy Mike for the replies, I'm adding the part numbers to my list of items to purchase.

I received the part number from the local parts stores and when I told them it was the wrong part, they couldn't locate the correct one.

I'd buy from a vendor like Willcox who KNOWS what part is correct for your car.

To clarify...
I went through the same thing, parts stores listing the switch as a "universal" GM light switch that fits many cars. It WILL fit and light the lites, but will not have the vacuum switch to open the doors...unique for vettes.

As stated you need to buy from a vette vendor.

FWIW / If you want to replace with a new switch I would go to Dr Rebuild and get the switch. His might be more expensive but they are made in the USA . All the other vendors usually get them from the same source and they are all made in Taiwan and Mexico. I replaced my bad switch after I had trouble with the Taiwan replacement with an OEM Delco Remy switch I got really cheap on eBay. It's been fine so far. I have a couple extra originals cleaned and tested that I got cheap that I'm keeping for future replacements if ever needed.
In the photos below original Delco Remi on left. Repro on right.

FWIW ... not sure why you are replacing the switch but if it has to do with vacuum for the headlights, I found my AIM was wrong and that a Wilcox video on vacuum showed them to be back to front. I did the swap of vacuum hoses and Presto up they popped ... just saying

I want to replace since the dash lights only go to 50% brightness and I figured it was due to a weak rheostat.

There are two suppliers of the switch currently.. neither of them is Delco... Delco discontinued the switch about 10 years ago. One supplier is pure junk..

I've not had any issues out of the switch that I carry and sell and it's the same switch I install in my shop.
