I'm new, and I'm sure this has been asked before. Can you install a 68-72 style chrome bumber front end on my 1973 c3?

I don't know if anybody has done this, requires a fair amount of modification. Not a bolt on proposition.

Yes if you put a '70 thru '72 front end on it.

Not easily and not cheaply.

Why do you want to ruin it? If you do not like the 73, selling it and buyuing what you want would be the correct course of action.

with the previous post in that, "why would you want to ruin it?" The 73 has the unique distinction of having the one year only body style. If you would add up all the expense to make the change plus what you would get for the car you could easily find a decent all chrome bumper C3.

Hi c69,
Welcome!
First Post!!
As you can see you're not the first person to wonder about this….. and…. it elicits some strong opinions.
To do the change WELL would take thousands of dollars and a LOT of work and would spoil what some folks feel is a unique car.
You would likely decrease the value of your car in doing so and thus would be better off financially to sell your present car and buy a 68-72 car.
Regards,
Alan

I disagree that it would likely decrease the value of the car. We regularly see people coming here asking if they can convert their 73 to a chrome front bumper. These people are obviously willing to pay more (perhaps not a lot more) for a 73 with a chrome front bumper than they would for a stock 73. I'm certain that in most cases a 73 with a well done chrome front bumper conversion would sell for more than a similar stock 73.

Thank for the input. This is not a numbers matching car. It has a late model 5.7L so it's value as an original is already decreased substantially. Might as well restomod it to suit me.

Wonder if there is anyone on this forum that has actually done this? If so would they be kind enough to post some pictures of the car, and maybe some pics of the process if they did document all the work that was done..
Just curious!
Thank you,

The closest I've seen someone attempt this conversion was forum member Patience he had purchased a green 73 and was going to make the conversion several years ago. He did not post any progress/update threads. It is the best c3 to choose to do such a conversion and would probably be cheaper than purchasing a complete chrome bumper car. However, like the others said, the 73 is a unique car in it's own right. BTW two months ago, a guy let a good condition 73 go for $5,000 in my area.

Are you still planning to do your conversion?

You would be bucks ahead getting the bumper car to start with.
BIG bucks ahead, unless maybe you are an experienced Vette body man?
Even then...

But it`s more than body work, isn`t it? The front rubber bumper was due to "impact resistant" rules, so there will also be some frame modifications required also to get the impact stuff out of the way, and get the brackets to fit for mounting the chrome bumper on the new front clip.
