Default Dealer info

I do not have any information by VIN numbers like NCRS acquired from GM Heritage. I just have a database I have accumulated over the years cross referencing zone and codes to Dealers. If you can read the zone and code off your build sheet/tank sticker, I will check to see if I have that info in my data base.

BTW I owned a 1966 SS back in the 70's and it was a girl getter. Originally a 396 BB car but was a 350 sb car while I owned it. Nice car but now I can't recall why I sold it. I think it was had problems I couldn't deal with at the time.

Well what kind of information do you need to look up shipping data for my '74 vette? Or what kind of information do you have for my car? I found my build sheet but its only half there now and most is eligible. I can PM you the VIN but thats mostly all I have.

Paul,
I have a question, maybe you can answer.
Everyone knows the zone and dealer part of the code, but do you understand what the "district" part of the code was? And do you know them? They seemed to have ranged for 01 to 06 but I could not find a pattern to them.

For example, Hamby Chevrolet would be 19-199-02, the district being 02. Any idea what it signified?

Thank you,
Ed

Default District

Sorry Ed, I do not know the significance or pattern for district codes but have seen many of these on window stickers depending on the model and year.

Hi Paul,
NCRS says my 69 vette came from Zone 14, dealer number 324. Any idea who that dealer was? Thanks if you can help, and, if not, thanks for your time. Gina

Paul,
Thank you for the revelation of info on dealer codes.
I was very happy when you told me my car was from
Friendly Chevrolet, Rt. 66,Foothill Blvd, Rialto, CA.
Zone 34/172.
This dealership's owner, John Grow had a colorful history racing
the early Cheetah cars.

My money is on you for Jeopardy car week!
Alex, I'll take dealer codes for $1,000.00 please
Thanks for keeping the hobby alive.

I have only partial information from my tank sticker which is in poor shape. Any help in suggesting the possible selling dealer would be appreciated. Here is what I know from the tank sticker: Zone is 09, last three digits of the zip code of the dealership is 215. I believe the selling dealership was in Ohio and probably in the Columbus area.

Robert:
I think the "215" you are referring to is actually the dealer code not the last 3 digits of the zip code: So your dealer would be zone 09 dealer code 215:
The dealer is:
Don Handy Chevrolet
4655 Urbana Rd
Springfield, Ohio
Looks like it may have turned into: Fite Chevrolet, same address.

Gina: The information I have for your dealer zone and code I'm sure is for a later dealer:
Coastal Chevrolet-Buick-Olds-Pontiac-Geo
6166 N Croatan Hwy
Kitty Hawk, NC
This is obviously a later dealer who inherited the zone and code. Original dealer could have been at same location.
I'll keep looking.
Here's the Link, you may want to call the dealership and see if they can shd any light on who was there prior?

Hi Paul, I already called that dealer, they couldn't help me. Just told me that they were not there in 1969. I still think it may be Loving Chevrolet in Silver Spring, MD - called the historical society there and they confirmed that Loving Chevrolet was there in 1969 but that's all they could give me. (strange that Loving Chevrolet is zone 14, dealer 323 and 325 - what happened to 324?) GM heritage has no records from -69 either. I also contacted Roy Sinor and Al Grenning. I'm not giving up! Thanks for all your help.....

Gina,
Very possible Loving also had 324, I have plenty of dealers that have consecutive dealer numbers.

Default Dealer District numbers

I recently received a list from one of the vintage car transport Companies that contains, Dealer zone, code, district and town and state but unfortunately no Dealer name. I am in the process of converting the PDF to Excel so I can search and sort through all of this and then cross reference with my current database. I can look up a state and town and tell you what district it is....

Hi Paul,
thank you, please let me know if you discover anything. I think the car may have originated in Pennsylvania so I am pleading with PA DOT to give me previous records. They state that they can only go back 10 years but I did speak with someone who says they can provide the very first title that was documented in Pennsylvania - I sent them a check and we will see what develops. If it is not the original title from 69 I am back to square one. Thanks for all your efforts!

I looked at the tank sticker again. The 215 is in the ship to box to the left of the zone 09 and I think I can faintly see a 43 in front of the 215 so I am relatively sure the zip code of the dealer is 43215. I found (on line) a Bobb Chevrolet Company in this zip code. Can you advise if there was any other Chevrolet dealer in zip code 43215 in 1974?

I can confirm that. I drove by that dealership a few days ago on my way to a speed shop. Interesting, though. Wouldn't have thought they've been around for that long. Looks brand new
