I just went ahead a replaced it. The studded hub had a lite amount of rust so I fine steel wooled it and the new one came out to less than .001. The budget dial indicator I own only claims to be good for .0005. So it might be nearly right on.
Has any body ever bought the aluminum hub front rotors? I'm wondering if the small weight loss is worth the price. Mine are worn about half way between the new and minimum service limit.
I had squeaking once per rotation of the rear tires. So when i was replacing my 4 u-joints and a destroyed half shaft. I sprayed the rotor in question down with WD-40 and i could see that it was hitting more in a 4 inch area of the rotor which was when it squeaked with my new SS O-rings calipers and PF pads.
So I got out my magnetic base and dial indicator and checked them all. I was also getting rearend noise once per rotation also. I just pulled the pumpkin and had the shop go through it. All the replaced was bearings and reshimmed. I was hoping that my 12 - 14 year old 4.11 richmond gears were bad so it would give me a reason to put in 3.90's
For any of you guys who get a clunk going into gear and think your U-joints are bad. It's not that big of deal to pull out the half shafts. Just get the rear up in the air and remove the 4 nuts and bolts from each end of the half shaft. Then I marked a line on my smart strut camber rod and turned it 6 rotations CCW so it pushes the trailing arm outboard. then the half shaft comes out with both ujoints. I don't have a 10 ton press so I went to a buddys house and pressed them out. You could also so do it in a big vice. I bought 4 Brute force ujoints for $40 some dollars at autozone. Easy afternoon job. :smash:
