Default Help with Engine info - Have Block Number

Guys,

I recently picked up a 71 stingray with a 454 NOM. It's been bored .030 over per seller. It has a Magnum 280 HR cam, Holley 750 DP, Edelbrock Torker II single plane intake. Just put a new MSD 6AL digital ignition controller and distributor in. I believe it has upgraded pistons but seller doesn't have build sheet from the engine builder and doesn't remember the details.

The engine block stamp is: 14015445 GM 1P

Can you guys tell me anything about the motor's history. What did it come from, what I might want to look for, etc.

Thanks in advance.

After a quick search on the net your engine is a 454 built between 1978 and 1990 used in car and truck applications. No details on 2 or 4 bolt main.

The front VIN stamp pad, if it is not decked off, may have some suffix letters of value to pinpoint the year and model it came out of......

This will not tell you much.....except that you will know.

How do you like the 280H Magnum cam?

Where do I find that on the motor? I'll check today.

I'll let you know on the Magnum cam. The car has been in the shop for a few weeks getting several things done including vintage air, hooker headers/sidepipes, steering system rebuild, Wilwood brakes, the MSD ignition and more. Wasn't that driveable when I got it. I will get to at least hear it with the sidepipes for the first time today and am pretty stoked about getting it back in a couple days.

Hi slb,
The engine information… when it was originally assembled and in what h.p. configuration along with the vin number of type vehicle it was first installed in…. is located on the block's pad located in front of the right side head.
Regards,
Alan

This is a sb pad but the bb pad is similar.

A bb pad with the head removed.
The LR "broadcast code" indicates this was a 427/435 engine with a manual transmission first installed in a 69 Corvette
