Default fuel tank delimma?

I recently got the assistance from a friend to help me replace the original gas tank in my 73 C3. He got sick in the middle of replacing the tank whereas I am picking up where he left off. My issue is I am unable to tell in which position the gas tank support brace goes in the the frame along with how the tank straps hook to this brace. Does anyone have pictures they can share of their oem brace and how it mounts on the frame including a shot of where it hooks into the brace. Many many thanks in advance for any insight you may be able to share

I replaced mine by myself, maybe this photo I found will help you, or perhaps Alan will soon reply.

It helps a Lil yes thanks problem is my oem brace ends are on like a 45° slant and the guy cleaned and painted everything so it's impossible to tell how it was originally orientated but each end has a flat spot which I assume had insulation and went against the tank I believe the front or middle brace was the removable one am I correct

My new tank came with a strip of roofing felt that goes between the support brace and the bottom of the gas tank, and this is the brace that goes towards the front of the car and bolts into the frame. You can see the brace in the second photo I posted.

The removable brace with the 45° ends goes towards the middle of the tank or front I can't tell?

Towards the front. Once you get the tank in position at the rear of the frame, the brace will line up with the holes in the frame where it mounts.
Once you get the brace in place, you can work on getting the 2 straps connected.

Hi S,
Perhaps this will help with locating the tank support and tank.
The front of the tank sits on the removable support and the rear of the tank sits on the rear crossmember.
Both have strips of heavy felt paper on them. It's heavier than the 30 lb felt sold at roofing supply businesses.
Regards,
Alan

If at first you are unable to catch the tie-down nuts in the strap, start with longer bolts and then install the correct length.

When dropping the tank some 17? years ago, I used that heavy black plastic garden edging made of some thick TOUGH plastic it has a rounded edge to it, so to cut that off and have some ~4" wide LONG strips of material.....still there, no wear.....Loews/Despot sells it....

The insulation strips need to be placed under the hold-down straps. It prevents squeaking, provides some 'wiggle' ability, and prevents galvanic action [and rusting] from happening between the metal strap and the tank.
