If that's the goal...I'd get a reman crank kit from Autozone for $125 with bearings (ask for no more than .020" undersized). Get a couple of rods and some rings. Tear it all apart and clean it up real good to get metal out and put it back together. Will probably need to change cam bearings so you can get passageways behind them cleaned too. Machine shop can press on new rods, hone cylinders and change cam bearings.

You might ck with a local shop to see what they would charge..or as mentioned just buy a low $$$ $700 shortblock and use it.

All depends on how much you can/want to do yourself?

Where are some places to get a shortblock for that price? Summit and Jegs are both well over $1000

Google-ebay etc.

There's some big rebuilders out there that provide them. That's who Summit gets them from.

I am looking for the easiest way to get another motor into this car. There was a 2 bolt main in it originally. Do I have to put another 2 bolt back in or will a 4 bolt work. I'm worried about things such as sensor ports being in the same locations, bolt patterns, etc.

Sensor ports? The small block chevy is about as complex as an anvil. With few exemptions everything interchanges pretty well.

Go to your local junk yard and pick up a SBC for less than $500. They came in cars, trucks and Vans.

Cheapest way to go and mostly complete... Almost any up to 1986 will fit.

2 bolt main? hmm sounds like the engines already been swapped? I dont believe there was an option in 82 and they were all 4 bolt as far as I know.

I guess that it could have been swapped. I'm not sure how to really check. Definitely has a 2 bolt main though.

not all corvette engines were 4 bolt mains.
Check the casting date and vin should be stamped on the block by the right head.

81 -82 block casting # 14010207

Yes im aware of the L48 2 bolt base option like my 74 had, but in 82 there was no optional motor so logically one would think they didnt use a weaker 2 bolt cast component base station wagon 350 like the l48 for all 82 cars? especially since I remember reading my 84 crossfire had forged internals and it was also the only engine available at the time.

EDIT looks like I shouldnt have assumed... the L83 engine was in fact a 2 bolt cast motor with forged pistons being the only upgrade on the longlock over the base l48 engines in earlier vettes...

looks like nothing but 2 bolts in the vettes from 1982 in the l83 as well as the l98 in the 80's TPI vettes.

Guess this would be one of those cases where people didnt exactly "get what they paid for" especially with the cost being so much higher through those years than the older cars with the stronger blocks..
