Before all these great heads came out yeah you had to throw a lot of cam and gear to get a car to run. Now its the opposite...get the BEST head even if you have ot save longer. Youd be surprised the power you can make. We got it good these days.
Remember when you couldnt scratch 400hp with an 11:1 350 ported camel humps a Vic Jr 750DP and a magnum 292 cam.
Even with 4.11 and a 3500 stall it was hard to get a car to break into the 12s I speak from experience. Car had the throttle response of a basketball. LOL
A well thought out 350 with the right cam moderate heads today would smoke it and drive better
Find one who is truly an expert and listen only to that person. the net will have you going in 10 different directions and youll be pissed at the result.
If you can afford to go bigger even if its a little stroke DO IT
Youll only get so much torque out of a 350, 383, etc before you give up manners.

If I remember correctly when you did the AFR heads and roller cam on your former L-82, you used AFR 195 and a lower lift roller cam (.510 or .501?) and Don you thought it lacked the mid range grunt that you were expecting with your auto trans? I suspect with the AFR's on a 350, one needs to use the 180 head for max mid range torque?
