Starter Switch
My LT-1 cranks and catches, but when I release the key lock it shuts off. I believe its the remote mounted starter switch and I have procured a replacement.
I'm trying to lower the steering wheel to get to the starter switch which is mounted at the brake pedal support. I removed the cover and the two bolts holding the steering column up, but it won't come down. I have a chassis manual and assembly manual and I don't see any other bolts holding it in place, nor do I see any on visual inspection.
Does anyone have a procedure to do this?

loosen the bolts on the firewall to allow the column to drop down.
you have verified coil wiring correct, correct resistive wire,
and bypass wire from the starter are in place with correct power?

Hi OGR,
After you loosen the 2 bolts as 69V suggests be sure to still support the column in it's lowered position because the weight of the column will be on the rag joint and you don't want to unnecessarily damage it.
Good Luck!

Alan

Yes the coil is good. If I keep the starter switch in the start position, and give it gas after it catches, the engine runs and accelerates. Pisses the starter motor off something fierce tho.

It sounds to me like you are only getting ignition with the key in the "start" and not the "on" or "run" position. You might have power to the coil while cranking but are you sure you have voltage with the key on but not in "start"? If not you might check for an ignition switch problem. I guess it's also possible that the ignition resistor wire is the problem as it is bypassed and a full 12 volts comes direct from the starter with the ignition key in the start position.
