So I am going to start the mark viii fan project. I picked up a fan for 63 bucks and I found that is hitting my sway bar. Right now it's looking like my only option is to trim it up a good bit to fit it. Has this happened to anyone else? My other question is since I'm not going the controller rout, besides the bosch rely and the thermo switch, what else do I need? I just got done doing the Hydro boost mod and im thinking maybe we could have a mega thread with all the info you need rather than having to digg through several threads to part it together.

taraus fan move air even in the low, it gets hot in los angeles traffic no problem, unless you have lots of HP, my fan touched the 1 1/8 sway bar, i'd say trim away
i put in a 1 1/4 bar and the bends on that gave it much more room....fyi
There is a substantial distance between the edge of the stock MK VIII fan housing and the edge of the blades I trimmed this area down substantially and mounted the fan on the radiator. The lower edge fit between the radiator and my 1 1/8" sway bar. I got the trim dimension from the web (or from the Forum?). Search for it. This mod was very popular 10 years ago on both Mustangs & C3's.
I had to reduce the height (thickness I guess) of my Mark VIII fan to get it to fit the way I wanted it in my 69 BB. I have it low speed, key on, and high speed either A/C switch, or when the temp sender hits temp. I love mine, I live in so. AZ, and the summers can be brutal on a big block, let alone one in our typed of car. I usually run just under 210 in the summer, with traffic, and 195 on the open road with no A/C on (tops off any way)

My Mark-VIII fan just barely touched my sway bar...
I was going to trim the plastic fan housing, but since it barely touched I just installed at is. No problems for 9+ years.
My fan operates via relay which is controlled by the EZ-EFI 2.0. I have a drilled 180 thermostat and I typically run between 170 to 180 degrees.
When I use the a/c the fan runs continuously. Again, no problems.
