69's right they were installed at St.Louis.
There were typically 4 braces… 2 on each side of the dash.
I believe they were added to reduce 'cowl shake' while driving more than frame flex.

All convertibles were supposed to have the behind dash reinforcements. AC was not required. For factory AC, the upper bar was a different part number to clear the AC.
Interesting stuff. My '71 big block convertible, without A/C, does not have them and does not have any evidence of ever having them. I suspect everyone is correct -- sometimes they were installed and sometimes they weren't. Or maybe they changed practice along the way. I don't want to ruffle feathers or start a debate about the pros and cons of NCRS, but for the sake of sharing information, here is what the latest edition of the Technical Information Manual (70-72) says on the subject: "On convertibles (and some coupes as well) with air conditioning, a pair of brace rods passes from a bracket on the transmission tunnel to the lateral windshield frame on the passenger's side and to the hinge pillar on the driver's..."
