Default 1970 Steerring box question

I have a 70 LT-1 car that I have completely restored mechanically to include the front and rear suspension. I DID NOT replace or rebuild the steering box though. There is a couple inches of play in the steering wheel I would like to get rid of. I have adjusted the steering box a few times but the play is still there. LT-1 cars are manual steering cars so its just a manual gear box. I see manual gearboxes for 200 bucks all over ebay but was wondering if anyone knows who sells the best gearboxes for these cars. thanks

Why not get your rebuilt. Willcox, Bairs, Paragon or Gary Ramadei and others will rebuild your original.

Hi lh,
I agree that you should consider having your existing steering box rebuilt or do it yourself.
The rebuild services are usually about $150 or a rebuild kit is about $65.
Regards,
Alan

Gary Ramadei did my box and I was shocked at how much better a properly rebuilt/blue printed OEM steering box really is....................versus from the factory

You did not mention the condition of the ragjoint (flex coupling) in your post. That is most often the source of unwanted steering wheel play. Check the condition of the rubber flex disc in that ragjoint.

I don't know if non power steering boxes are the same power steering but the factory power steering box on my 78 is 16:1. Look up your year here:
