Like most discussions about oil, there will never be a consensus. So I would suggest simplistically:

For those that have roller cams installed solo or part of a build, let her rip to 6,500 RPM on the first start and run any oil you please.

For those amongst us that are more prudent, with a roller cam solo installation or part of a build, follow the proper break in procedure using a breakin oil, change the oil/filter after the breakin, use some caution for the first 500 miles, change the oil again and let it rip

Pretty simple for both groups/camps.

This may be one of those things were it is unsaid what is in the oil from the factory, but the assumption is that you don't run home, dump the oil, and put your own oil in, being as that would be a somewhat unreasonable thing to do.

There's no warning in the manual about not driving your car with your eyes closed. But that would also be a somewhat unreasonable thing to do.

There are some things associated with owning/driving the cars that simply aren't written in the manual.
Might be true.....but somebody would know, and my bet is the oil that comes in the car has no break in additive. Whatever the facts are rule.

I don't know what Gary is using, but I have not been doing cam buttons for many years

I just use crane billet timing sets. The chain is so tight that it doesn't allow cam end play. Roller lifters don't impart thrust on the cam
