Can someone help me with reconnecting the fiber optic cable to the bevel in the console area. It is for the back of the car. In removing the center console one of the fibers pulled out of the brass connector.
Any suggestion how to reconnect push it back into the connector.
I have tried lubricating it and pushing it in. No luck.
Thanks
Max
I'll have to look tomorrow but doesn't the ferrule have a tabs on it that grabs in place when inserted into the lens? If I'm correct (and I'll check this tomorrow)you should be able to modify this so that it locks when installed... I'm sorry, it's been a long time since I've messed with this but maybe Alan can offer more advice from my post.
FWIW. I had the same issue on my 68; a missing ferrule. I came up with a piece of plastic hose which had an ID pretty much the same as the fiber optic cable and an OD which slipped snugly into the lens. No problems with it in 20+ years.
Hi Max,
Are you trying to get the fiber optic cable in the ferrule OR the tube/ferrule in the lens tube?
The ferrules do have very small 'prongs' on them as Willcox surmised.
I would think you could exert enough pressure on it to get the ferrule to slide into the plastic lens' 'tube'. It can only go in about 1/4".
You do need to be careful that you don't split the tube though… they've become quite fragile from age.
If you're trying to get the cable in the ferrule I'd reduce the circumference of the cable with some 2000 sand paper a little bit at a time until it slides into the ferrule. I'd then put a dot of epoxy at the back end of the ferrule to hold it. NOT at the end that slips in the lens' tube.

Alan

Thank you very much. That was going to be my next attempt.
It seems that the fiber is set inside the cable a little bit. I was going to trim that off before inserting it into the ferrule.
This is all new fiber and wiring, so light emitting from the fiber is good.
Thanks for all your input.
I may be calling on you to rebuild the power steering cyclinder.
That is my next attempt.
Thanks again
Max
