Default Front bumper for body mount removal

Hey guys.....
i need ur help please
im in the middle of body mounts removal seeing that they are all rotted out but very little rust I have seen other threads try to describe how to remove the front end. but they are kind of vague (no pics) about the removal of the front bumper they all talk about the frame horn's and the frame extentions something about flat piece of metal. I have no idea what they are or how they even look can somebody please help preferably with pictures thanks again

Hi h,
DUB is really right about you needing a copy of the 77 Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) to do the kind of job you're asking about.
Here's a picture of the frame horn, frame extension, and a bumper brace.
What you see may well be different.. but this is the area you asked about.
Regards,
Alan

that big heavy "pipe" which is actually your vacuum tank bolts onto the frame horns, sometimes called "the battering ram" as well. its also bolted to the radiator support frame and shims in between the two affect how the whole front panels align (if there are some there DONT loose them!)

the rectangular hole on the wheel well has a brace running from the "frame horn" as well .

right in the middle at the front of the "battering ram" you can see a 'V" shaped plate , that's a shim for the nose (its rusted onto the ram)

that's the HEAVY steel bumper with the plastic honeycomb crash stuff still on it (it came off like that)

you have to get at all the little nuts from behind/around that steel bumper

with that last pic showing the studs in the cover , I wasn't worried about snapping them off as most were rusted solid , new replacement steel frames with studs are readily available .

below is the only pic I have showing the 77 frame horn,

its the end section that looks like its touching that orange plastic tub. sorry that all I have on the computer

Are you planning on fully lifting the body to service the body bushings????....OR....lifting the body (one side at a time) enough to replace them????

The page you posted is only one page...you need to find the other page that shows the front impact bar.

If you post that page and answer the questions I asked....I can tell you what bolts you need to remove to do this...because you do not have to remove all of them...just a few specific ones...and they will allow you to tilt one side at a time....or even pull it all the way off.

the frame horns are in the picture , they are just the end of the frame where all those pieces bolt to. its hard to see what they look like until the bracing is removed ,best is too look from inside engine bay . Alans pic showed one , but it was covered up ,it was the bit that was sitting on the rag :0

if you don't need to do the full removal ,then what DUB is offering is gold

im planing to lift it one side at a time to replace the bushing. I seen other threads that say remove bolts the side your lifting &the other side just loosen them and vice versa but but i wasent sure whats what. Now i have a slight better understanding i just want to make sure

POST #14...remove bolt number 11. DO BOTH SIDES.

POST #10....remove the two bolts (#8) that hold the REINFORCEMENT (#10) from the BRACE (#2) DO BOTH SIDES.

POST # 10....remove the two bolts that hold BRACE (#2). DO BOTH SIDES These parts need to be free floating when you tilt the body.

You need to find ONE more page and it deals with the radiator support. When you get UNDER your car...you will see two bolts with the special toothed washers that hold the lower radiator support to the EXTENSION ASSEMBLY (#1 in POST #10) REMOVE BOTH of these bolts.

You have already removed the lower valance panel in POST #7

The only other thing is depending on how high you plan on raising it..you might also want to remove your fan clutch off the water pump so it does not bind with the fan shroud.

And I guess you are aware of the steering coupling and other items....like the ground strap on the number 1 body mount on the left side that go to the rocker channel.

NO NEED in taking out the two bolts per side that hold the EXTENSION ASSEMBLY. I don't and have no problems at all.

Juts lift slowly and you may have to help it along.....and keep in mind that you might want to use another floor jack with piece of wood or whatever you figure out to help raise the outer bottom edge of the radiator support due to it being full of coolant and weighing a lot. There is a lot of weight out on the front of the car....so BE AWARE OF IT!

These pages do not show how the radiator support is installed. So they do not work.
