Default 1980 C3 Tow Hook ?Please Advise

Gentlemen,

Did 1980 Corvettes come stock with tow hooks of any kind front and rear ? Would the two square bent steel box like pieces at the rear bumper work for towing or are these for another purpose ie : to obsorb impacts, exhaust mounting etc ?

Any photos that you might post would be appreciated .

Best.

Robert - five years into my first build /rescue and still have much to learn .

The frame has keyholes in the front and back for tying down to a trailer but no tow hooks. I imagine flat towing isn't a good idea.

No. To my knowledge, no C3s had towing provisions.

the railroad had special links with a T-shaped piece that went into that slot for tying them and most other vehicles of the era down for shipping. I have a bucket full of them

Modern Cars that have screw in tow Hooks used them for the Boat ride to America from wherever they were made. Cars made in Saint Louis didn't need them. To strap my Car down I use the lower A Arms and the Batwing. However I am considering trying the Netting that I see Tow Trucks using that fits over the Tires. Looks like a pretty good way to do it.

This the type of hook we use on the big rigs when transporting new cars.

You insert it into the slot on the frame and twist it 90*.

I know what you mean on these, I have them as well and took mine off a long time ago, extra weight. However, I do install them when I go to the dyno with grade eight bolts and use to strap it down. Even the assembly manual doesn't really tell you what they are except brackets. You would probably tear up the rear if you towed with them. I would put it on a trailer or flatbed if you are taking it somewhere. Good luck.
