Latest picture of cover with clearance cut for 12 bolt ring gear.
This one is heavy duty casting that is a little thicker than stock unit.

The last picture is hd cover from Bairs and is heavier everywhere. I am going to make stainless steel fill plug and bring the cover to Carlisle with me. Bill I have some feedback on the yoke clamps from the late model stock car. They have held up to 8400 rpm shift points so I think we are in a good spot. I also expect Mike to start posting some pictures soon.
Hope to see all that are going to Carlisle,
Dave

Great David, love to hear those results. Doesn't surprise me at all having had my hands on those caps. Mike is bringing my stuff to Carlisle so I will definitely be there. Look forward to meeting you!

Bill,
Here are a few pictures of your caps after plating. The plating is black zinc and will pass a 360 hour salt spray test.

Wow that's great David. Need to do that to my yoke as it is already a rusty mess just sitting in the box lol. Good stuff!

If you want I will give you contact information for plating your yoke.
The service I have received from them has been superb.

just found this thread. so this is putting 12 bolt internals in a 8.2 10 bolt (sorta) vette diff housing? would modifying for 8.5 inch 10-bolt internals be easier? cuz that is supposed to be a pretty tough rear also.

Yes it is about putting modified 12 bolt ring and pinion in the corvette housing. The 12 bolt carrier is supposed to be 4 times stronger than the ten bolt. Add the 30 splines inner axles and 31 spline outer axles and you have a significant upgrade from the factory 17 spline units. Tom's kits also include upgraded half shafts too.

Default c2 rear differential upgrade

Hello-I have a '64 with c5 front and c2 rear disc brake conversion. car has 509 Dart with 675hp. Would like either 10 bolt upgrade with with 12 bolt guts or complete 12 bolt. Tom's Differentials only offers 3:71 and lower gear ratios. Looking to keep my 3:36 rear ratio as I have Tremec t600 5 spd tranny as well.

Rear end in car is fine but don't think it can handle the recently installed Dart 509 for long. Although it did handle a built LS-6 for several years.

does anyone make an upgrade kit or conversion kit for c2's?

Same set up from 63 thru 79. To run the gearing you want check out a modified ten bolt with 12 bolt cross shaft and spider gears.
It will also use the 30 spline inners and 31 spline outers.
Machining is required. If you want parts from Tom's I would get them soon because his rumored retirement is coming quickly.
There are several threads on here with the ten bolt builds for you to look at if you want specific details.
Good luck,
Dave

Yep... That's what I had to do to keep 3.36 gears. 10 bolt posi case, with 12 bolt guts..... and the 30/31 axles etc.... All Tom's stuff.

Not a lot of options if you wanna stay with taller then 3.70 gears.

Not sure a built 10 bolt will hold up to 675hp with a stick trans if you are going to actually race it.

Mike (Tracdogg) is building an HD10 for me now. I have a 653 horse 502. Mine will have the 1480 flanges and full REM and Cryo treatment. I went with the 10 bolt since I wanted 3.08 rear gears with my Richmond. I will have 76strokervettes pieces on there as well. Going to do my best to try and kill it. We shall see. Mike has built a lot of HD10’s for the high horsepower guys here on the forum and they all seem to be holding up to varying amounts of abuse.
