Re: 77s not classified as stingrays, right? (jerryp58)
'63 -- '67 were badged "Sting Ray"
'69 -- '76 were badged "Stingray"
I've seen books with pictures of "'77s" with the "Stingray" emblems, but I think it most likely that it was a matter of poor editing that labelled those cars as '77s.
Everything I've ever read (even in those books) has said that no '77s ever had "Stingray" badges. No badges at all or Crossed Flags on the fender, YES; alarm switch on the fender or alarm switch integrated in the driver's door lock, YES; but "Stingray" badges anywhere, NO.
Many people (including me) think of all C3s as stingrays, even though they all didn't carry the official "Stingray" badge.
So, after all that, it still comes down to the fact that it's your car and your choice.

In the '77 production year, they made three diffrent body changes as far as badges go. '76 was the last year for the official "Stingray" emblem although they share the same body. The first '77 body had just the alarm on the fender. The second body had both the alarm and the cross flags emblem (this is my body style). And then the last change, they kept the flags and moved the alarm to the door lock. You could say that I have read up on it.
I have also known several people to add stingray badges to '77s just like some people replace the L-48 badge with the L-82 badge.

as far as im concerned 68 - 82 are all Stingray `s weather there STING RAY or STINGRAY emblems are on it or not. the only time it really matters it for shows and those really **** corvette conosours . i was thinking about putting "Stingray" emblems on my 80. think about it like this , most c3 corvettes today are not factory origionals just look at the "whats under your hood thread" and youll see what i mean . but in any case the average joe doesnt know the difference between a 73 , 77 or 81 and they ALL call them stingrays.
