Additional pillar / beside the central console gauges?
Hey there. Will be installing additional gauges on my '73. Don't realy like more than 5 gauges placed on the central console. Neither the under-dash placement works for me (limited view). Was thinking either the pillar instalation but maybe better to the right of the central console or even on the top of the dash. Anyone made such instalation on your C3's? Can you share your pillar / console / top instalations? Thank you.

Actually, I see them better than the ones inside the car. I have light in them, and don`t have to look away from the road to see them
Well, that's a good point. I will be installing the three (for me) important gauges (OIL psi, OIL temp and BOOST) on the top of the dash I guess, to keep the best visibility possible. There is a nice housing for that available from AutoMeter. Forgot to mention I'm building a 700+ HP car for occasional drag racing.
I also defined my gauges config and type. I like the whole black ones from Marshall...

Personally, I'd sacrifice the radio location before I started 'scabbing' additional gauges onto the car. Anymore, the radio doesn't mean much and 99% of the functionality can be handled with a USB (or bluetooth) tie-in directly to a small 4-channel amplifier.
Also, as a matter of personal experience, the oil temperature gauge is pretty redundant to the oil pressure gauge. I know a great deal about the oil temp by what PSI I'm running at idle. Anything over 20-22 PSI and my oil is not up to temp. Anything under 18-20 psi and I've been running the engine hard.
I have mechanical oil pressure, water temp, and vacuum, then electric volts and fuel level.
If it was a race car, I'd perhaps consider oil temp. If I had an auto, the trans temp would be useful.
I'd be interested to know if the A/F Ratio gauge is something that anyone uses. Being as I have sidepipes, I'm not sure how I'd really manage that without having two of them...but I know when I'm in the hunt on mixture.

After I posted the first post I realised that neither the radio location nor anything below the dash would work for me. As it's going to be partialy a race car, I need to see them when looking on the road.
As a race car, I will need oil press and temp and a tranny temp gauge for my TH400.
I understand one can assume the state of oil based on it's pressure. On a 700+ HP car I need to be certain what's going on and gladly add one more $60 gauge to prevent wear or a major damage to the engine.
As for the A/F, I will install two sensonrs - each on one side and a switch for reading those on one gauge.
