Hi C3,
I'm unable to see anything but a small rectangular blur… no video.
Here's a couple of photos of a pretty typical original rag-joint.
How different does yours look?
2 inches of play at the rag-joint is lot…. might some of the play be in the steering box or steering linkage?
Regards,
Alan
Ha, no not 2 inches or play at the rag joint, about 2 inches of play on the steering wheel. I'm getting frustrated as to why the video won't load though! It shows on my photobucket account, but won't play here for some reason.
Here's a still pic. the tab for lack of a better word is all the way against the metal stop in one direction, and it goes to the other stop when you rock the steering wheel.

YES...it either needs to be rebuilt or replaced. If you put an aftermarket one in...they are out 180 degrees...and the bolts need to be swapped.
Video worked for me....It almost looks like bolts are missing or something....On a side note youtube is very easy to use and embedding is easy as well.
DUB, what's your opinion on aftermarket rag joints? Do you use them or only the NOS ones?
it is a 50/50 situation for me.
I can rebuild an original...but it costs more than the aftermarket...and this is due to the rebuild kits I have seen...they do not offer two of the large pin studs like GM had in it originally. One of these pin studs is much smaller in diameter than the stock design. And with it being smaller than the stock design...these two pin studs will not contact the flange at the base of the column shaft like yours is doing currently.....OR
I get the aftermarket ones and switch the bolts and sleeve around so it indexes correctly.
As for getting original GM NOS ones. I have three and I am holding onto them for my cars if ever needed....and I do not feel people would want to pay for an original if the car is nothing special and not being judged.
