Driveshaft u joints
Can someone give me a part number for my drive shaft u- joints for my 1970 LT1. I would like to get them from an auto parts store. I tried yesterday and they were no help.
Thanks

manual transmission uses a 1310 series driveshaft u-joint. You dont mention whether you want greaseable or solid? Assuming you want solid the Moog number is 269.

It would be WISE to not use U-joints with a grease fitting in them....but that is my opinion on this.... which has been previous discussed on another thread.
I use only solid SPICER U-joints at my shop.

I also prefer the Spicer U joint brand without the grease fitting. But, you may have to look around for them, not everybody stocks them. For my half-shafts, I actually took them to a local driveshaft shop and they also re-balanced them for me. Regardless, I believe Moog is still a good name out there.

Would anyone have a chart for years, trans types etc. with the Moog and Spicer part numbers for all the half shaft/driveshaft combinations?

I know the truck company I get my SPICER's through has the chart. But I dio not need the chart due to stiocking all possible U-joints that can go on a Corvette. I just go in my parts room and match them up.

I'm probably going to have to have my TA arms rebuilt this winter and will be replacing the half shaft ujoints and drive shaft u joint. I have 2 questions:
1. Moog and Spicer clearly state that their greaseable ujoints are a superior design now since the grease fitting is in one of the ujoints caps and NOT in the ujoint body which does not compromise the unjoint strength. Truth?
2. Rock auto lists the Moog Non greaseable ujoints for about $15. Spicer on the site shows $75 apiece for the Spicer Greaseable half shaft ujoints. Is that price possible? Seems really high?
Thanks

OK..I have NOT done specific testing to confirm it. BUT..regardless where the grease fitting is located. The U-join is still cross-drilled hollow so the grease can get to all the caps.
AS I have written. I have had solid SPICER U-joints last for well over 50K. In some cases 70K miles.
I prefer NOT to use U-joints that have grease fitting in them and WILL NOT use U-joints with grease fitting in them...but use what you want.

I will have to call tomorrow and see what the SPICERS are going for and get back to you.

Dennys Driveshaft lists the 5-1330X at $17.50 and the 5-1350X for $21.50
Not sure what Rock auto is listing there but I'd say it's either a KIT of all six of the U-joints or a mistake

For maximum strength, 1330's for the driveshaft and 1350's for the half shafts?

Always best to actually check (measure cap dia and distance across the two caps) on the driveshaft in case Bubba was in there and did something extra weird.
The 1/2 shafts should be 1350s, that number you have 5-1350-1X is listed as a KIT by spicer but really seems to be only a single U-joint, greaseable with the zirc in the cap, and yes they are 3 or 4 times the price
The drive shaft SHOULD be 1330s but if someone changed anything it might be 1310 or a combination of 1330 and 1310s, measure them to be sure

I think this was posted by Mike (Tracdogg) a while back, I saved it and it's quite handy
