71 factory alarm question
In the process of trying to get the factory alarm system working. Door pins and hood pin are in place. Untested as of yet. Horn under rear d/s fender there. Untested too. Relay and flasher in rear storage area cleaned and connected. My question is related to the rear key switch. The switch is gone. Can I test the system by simply connecting the wires that went to the switch together? (Door or hood open to ground the system). I believe only the horn should sound. Any info would help.
X2.And you asked for 'any info'. I will add this. You are aware that even if you get the system to work and you arm it. IF it goes off...it will continue to sound the horn until it drains your battery. Just to let you know...this system is rather 'prehistoric'...compared to current alarm systems. All it does is make noise.

But if you have the system armed...and leave the car alone and are away from it....do not be surprised if you come back to a dead battery. I have had custoemr who woke up and found their car alarm was sounding off in the garage or in the drive way..

Sadly, in the old days people would just take an ice pick and run it up through the floor board and into the battery... this would drain the acid and then they'd steal your car.
Here is a readable schematic for the alarm system.. While it says 1975 it's the same for your car.
